EDT, EDP and Parfum
The letters on a bottle tell you how much perfume oil is in it. More oil means the scent sits closer to the skin for longer — it does not mean the fragrance is better, and it does not mean it smells the same.
| Name | Perfume oil | Roughly lasts |
|---|---|---|
| EDC — Eau de Cologne | 2–5% | about 2 hours |
| EDT — Eau de Toilette | 5–15% | 3–5 hours, lighter and fresher |
| EDP — Eau de Parfum | 15–20% | 5–8 hours, the usual choice |
| Parfum / Extrait | 20–40% | 8+ hours, apply sparingly |
Two strengths of the same name are two different fragrances
An Eau de Toilette and an Eau de Parfum of the same fragrance are not the same liquid at two prices. They are mixed differently and they smell different — often noticeably so. We list them separately so you can choose knowingly rather than picking a cheaper option and receiving something you did not expect.
How long it lasts is not the same for everyone
Fragrance smells different on different skin, and how long it lasts varies from person to person — skin type, the weather and how much you apply all change it. Any hours we quote are a guide drawn from the usual range, not a promise.
